We Made It + Orientation Day!

The travel was intense but so worth it! Both teams made it to Nairobi late Friday night/early Saturday morning. And everyone’s luggage arrived along with all of the supplies. Praise God! Anytime there are long amounts of flight time one could anticipate some grumbling. Not these teams! Tired? For sure. But more excited than weary which was so encouraging. What was extremely helpful was the reception offered by the staff of MOHI. From the minute we got out of the airport until we reached the MOHI Guest House was nothing short of amazing. We took an exciting bus ride out of the city and when we arrived at the Guest House we were greeted with lots of smiles and fresh orange juice! The accommodations are more than we anticipated. So warm and inviting. The food has been incredible and we are so glad to have met Alicia and her team.

Saturday morning we took another exciting bus ride to the MOHI headquarters. The headquarters are located in the city and near very impoverished neighborhoods. Alicia and her team did an amazing job of giving us an orientation where we learned of the incredible history of this organization. We took a break for tea time which everyone enjoyed! Then we partnered up with the MOHI social workers and went out into the slums to meet some of the kids and their families. What an amazing experience to sit walk the streets and see the many are who struggling to survive. And yet, most are hard working families who can’t catch a break. Many of the students were able to go inside the tiny shanties/homes and pray with people. Most homes were 5’ x 5’ single rooms made with aluminum siding with dirt floors and no electricity. And yet these homes will sleep up to 10-12 family members. Truly eye-opening.

Tomorrow we will lead a church service many of the students leading worship or giving their testimonies. Very excited to worship God with our newfound brothers and sisters in the Lord!
